The World Health Organization (WHO) cites malnutrition as the greatest single threat to the world’s public health. More than 780,000 people have died just in the past decade following natural disasters largely due to inadequate food and unclean water. In addition, more than 2 billion people have been displaced from their homes around the world during the same period of time. Generally speaking, almost half of the 62 million people who die on our planet each year die of hunger and disease related to malnutrition.
In the United States one out of two school age children are overweight or obese. Some of this is caused by poor nutrition and some is caused by lack of adequate exercise, but almost all of it can be made better if we work together to eat right and help others eat better.
Through Global Food Share™ and our Community Partners Program, we improve both the quality of food that our partners consume and the quality of life of those who receive matching meals through our not-for-profit distribution partners.
